Part I

Instructions: Write a paragraph (5-7 complete sentences) explaining what text structure is.

Text structure refers to how the information within a written text is organized. This strategy helps understand that a text might present a main idea and details; a cause and then its effects; and/or different views of a topic. It is also the manner in which written content is arranged is known as text structure. Common text structures include compare and contrast, sequence, description, problem and solution, and cause and effect.

Part II

Instructions: Write two paragraphs (5-7 complete sentences) that compare how the structures of “Gumption” and “To Build a Fire” create meaning.

“Gumption” and “To Build a Fire” create meanings. Both tells the struggles they both went through. In "gumption" Oyster and his boy are dealing with racial injustice.  In "to build a fire" he is challenged with surviving in the wilderness in the middle of winter. So the meaning creates that life can be challenging.
