15 students preferred green.

So, we can setup an equation:

We also know that 3/5(x - x/4 -x/8) = 15

3x - 3x/4 - 3x/8 = 75

5x = 200.

Dividing both sides by 5, we get

x= 40.

Therefore, 40 students were surveyed.
