PLEASE HELP ASAP. 20 points and I will give brainiest to who can give the answer and explain why it is that answer.
Which statement is true for light passing into a medium that is less optically dense than the first medium through which it passed.

A: The index of reflection of the second medium is higher
B: The index of refraction of the second medium is higher
C: The index of reflection of the second medium is lower
D: The index of refraction of the second medium is lower

Answer :

optical density is given by formula

[tex]\mu = \frac{c}{v}[/tex]

if we rearrange this above equation then we will have

[tex]v = \frac{c}{\mu}[/tex]

now here we can say if light travels into less optically dense medium than medium 1

this means the speed of light in medium 2 will be more than medium 1

Here as per above equation we can see that refractive index of any medium is inversely depends on velocity of light in that medium.

Since speed of light will be more in medium 2 so its refractive index must be less as it is inversely dependent.

So correct answer must be

D: The index of refraction of the second medium is lower

Answer:

This is actually the right answer um idk if your from K12 but thats what mine says.
